Living Lent: Holy Week Compassion

March 23rd, 2016

Have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Philippians 2:5-8

When I read the gospels leading up to the time of Jesus’ crucifixion, I cringe because I visualize the soldiers torturing Him and tearing off His garments. The reality of Jesus suffering sinks in. I can only imagine the pain and humiliation He endured being exposed like that. Yet, He suffered for us with grace and compassion.

Many of us reacted the same way to the news this week of the brutal act of terrorism in Brussels. In the face of so much suffering, help me to be compassionate and never give in to indifference or cynicism.

This Holy week, let’s work harder to be models of His life of love and compassion to everyone around us.

Tamara, mom told me you are off to Maine. I am sorry you did not get Florida I know that was your first choice. However we do know that God has a plan for each of us and will guide us if we are willing. My prayer is that you will find a kindred spirit there. Two are better than one to lift each other up, to share insights, and our love for the Lord. Friends are so special because they are special and brought to us by the Lord. I also pray you will find a wonderful church to share your gifts and be encouraged and grow in the Lord.

Praise God for Easter! He rose again. His suffering provides for our freedom, healing forgiveness of sin all we could ever need.

Enjoy your time with your family and keep up the great post.

Thank you Shelley, that means a lot to me. I am so glad I was able to work with you Mom and meet you. God puts those in our lives for a purpose. Your mother is such a special woman who always brightened up the room. I’m sorry I didn’t get to see you again, but I’m glad we can meet here. Bar Harbor will be lovely.

Hallelujah, Jesus rose from the dead to free us from the bondage of our sins! I’m at my brother’s now and last night his church had a Passover dinner service. It was very interesting and I’m glad we made it because the weather is so terrible here. It snowed 12 inches yesterday! It’s a white Easter in lower Michigan. Monday I’ll continue downstate to visit with my parents and on to Maine April 8th.

May the many blessings of our Lord continue to shower upon you and your house,
