When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?” Genesis 29:25
Have you ever had one of those weeks that everything seems to be falling into to place? You made plans based on the groundwork laid and the next day you woke up and everything changed? Is it just me, or have you had your goal close enough to see, then something happens that moved the goal even further away from your grasp. That can be so frustrating. It’s those detours that can make us doubt whether we’ll ever succeed in our efforts.
For Jacob it was the moment he realized the sisters had been switched and he had married Leah instead of Rachel, as agreed upon. For the disciples, it was when Jesus was crucified. What was it for you? Did your company reorganize and let you go just as you were up for a promotion? Has some illness or financial problem impeded your progress? It can be any number of setbacks that break your heart and crush your spirit.
Yet, and it may be hard in the moment, God hasn’t failed you. He has a better plan than you realize. Though the detour IS difficult, you will see that it was worth it in the end.
Remember, God had a greater plan for Jacob. Leah and her maid bore sons that led 8 of the twelve tribes of Israel. From a detour came greatness. For the disciples, three days after they saw Jesus die on the Cross, they discovered His resurrection. And He has a plan for you.
We need to evaluate if the goals we have been pursuing are more important than our relationship with God. Will you still trust Him, even though you cannot see how to reach your goal? Trust Him, friends. Surely the Lord will take care of all that concerns you.
