But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Mark 10:14b-15
The majority of my family has settled in Michigan, so, living as I do in Florida I don’t get to see them very often. Our contacts are mostly by phone, emails and occasional Skype sessions. So it’s nice when I’m out for me to witness families interacting like I did this past weekend at the Trenary Outhouse Classic.
One particular little girl and her father comes to mind. She had been running ahead until she saw a large dog that stopped her in her tracks. The dog wasn’t doing anything wrong, it was just something new to the little girl. And without saying anything she ran to her father’s side, put her hand in her father’s and held tightly. That was such a personal and heartwarming moment to witness between them.
As I’ve recalled that moment, I thought about how it relates to my relationship with God. How often I don’t pay attention to God until I encounter something I can’t control or that frightens me. That’s when I put my hand in His and my fears are calmed. How happy it must make God when one of His children puts their hand in His demonstrating complete trust and faith in Him.
What a blessing that we can rest safe and secure knowing that He loves us and we are His children.
