Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:27
The new year is not even a month old, and some of us are fretting. God didn’t design us to be anxious. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told the crowd, “Do not worry about tomorrow.”
Still all of us have already worried something. About our job or relationships. Maybe where we live, what food to buy, what to wear, what others think about us. In the end, all these worries come down to a matter of trusting God. Do we really believe He’s in charge, or do we think we’re in charge? The answer has everything to do with anxiety levels.
The most common analogy I can think of is the mouse running inside its wheel. The faster it runs, the faster the wheel moves. He doesn’t make progress or even have the sense to get off the wheel! I had one run himself to death years ago.
That’s what anxiety does to us. We run faster and faster, trying harder and harder to meet worldly demands and we don’t have control over the circumstances. We never will. So when something doesn’t go as we want it to our frustration level increases even more.
Let’s get off the wheel of anxiety this year. We know God longs for us to cast our cares unto Him. Throw your cares on Him and leave them there! Trust Him for the answers to prayer. Trust that God will reveal what to do and take care of the consequences for your sake.
