Tamara's Journeys

Journeys as great as the destinations.

Begrudgingly Written

December 5th, 2013

Last night I watched begrudgingly as a pair of aging boxing rivals are coaxed out of retirement to fight a “Grudge Match” 30 years after their last match.

This movie had potential written all over it with the right stars and fun idea. But it has the worst script ever! I don’t know how De Niro could have agreed to be a part of this movie unless they drugged him. The greedy, jealous behavior coupled with talk of horse urine, human feces and sexual acts is so far beneath him. As if that isn’t enough, his character endangers his grandson by leaving him in a bar so he can have sexual relations with a woman he just met in his SUV. Just irresponsible, trashy behavior throughout.

It didn’t take long to figure out why there were so few of us at the FREE screening. There was nothing redeeming about this movie, unless you like the Jacka** style comedy. Frankly, I was embarrassed to be seen leaving this movie. Don’t fall for the hype. Don’t waste your time or your money. Rent a Rocky or Raging Bull if you want to see these guys in their boxing glory.
